Door Systems Diagnostic System Check
NOTE:
Presence of DTCs which begin with "U" indicate some other module on class 2 serial data line is not communicating.
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located under left side of instrument panel. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Turn headlights on. Using scan tool, attempt to establish communication with Driver Door Module (DDM), Passenger Front Door Module (PDM), Left Middle Door Module (LMDM), Right Middle Door Module (RMDM), Left Rear Door Module (LRDM), Right Rear Door Module (RRDM), Driver Door Switch Assembly (DDSA), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Rear Integration Module (RIM) and Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module. If scan tool communicates with all modules is established, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with all modules, perform SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
- Using scan tool, access CLASS 2 POWER MODE from diagnostic circuit check. Rotate ignition switch through all positions while observing IGNITION SWITCH POWER MODE parameter. If parameter matches ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If parameter does not match ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to POWER MODE MISMATCH under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article.
- Using scan tool, select DISPLAY DTC function for and retrieve any DDM, PDFM, LMDM, RMDM, LRDM, RRDM, DDSA, IPC, PCM, RIM and RFA module DTCs. Record all displayed DTCs, status of displayed DTCs and module that set the DTC. If any DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If no DTCs are retrieved, repair power windows by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
- If scan tool displays any codes which begin with "U", perform SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE under SYSTEM TESTS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. If scan tool does not display any codes which begin with "U", go to next step.
- If scan tool displays DTC B1004, B1007 or B1009, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS in BODY CONTROL MODULES - DEVILLE article. If scan tool does not display DTC B1004, B1007 or B1009, go to next step.
- If scan tool displays DTC B1327 or B1328, perform appropriate test. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS. If scan tool displays any other DTCs, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table under DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS.
NOTE:
Enabling headlights in this step verifies that a door module is not using an alternate path to ground through switch illumination circuit.
NOTE:
Engine may start during following step. Turn engine OFF as soon as crank power mode is observed.
