Description & Operation: Introduction: Notes
The Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running.
The shift interlock system prevents driver from moving gearshift lever from PARK position unless ignition switch is turned to ON position. BTSI solenoid inhibits gearshift lever movement from PARK position until simultaneously applying brake pedal with ignition switch turned to ON position. Shift interlock solenoid is located at gearshift lever in steering column or center console.
NOTE:
The BTSI solenoid may also be referred to as A/T shift interlock solenoid, shift interlock control solenoid or shift lock actuator.
