Engine Electrical Diagnostic System Check
- Perform battery inspection test. See BATTERY TESTING & INSPECTION . If battery passes test, go to next step.
- Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. If the scan tool powers up, go to next step. If the scan tool does not power up, see BODY CONTROL MODULES.NOTE: The engine may start during the following step. Turn OFF the engine as soon as you have observed the Crank power mode.
- Access the Class 2 Power Mode in the Diagnostic Circuit Check on the scan tool. Rotate the ignition switch through all positions while observing the Class 2 Power Mode parameter. If the ignition switch parameter reading matches the ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to next step. If the ignition switch parameter reading does not match the ignition switch position for all switch positions, go to BODY CONTROL MODULES.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Attempt to communicate with each of the following modules on the class 2 serial data circuit:
- Amplifier (AMP).
- Dash Integration Module (DIM).
- Drivers Door Module (DIM).
- Heads Up Display (HUD).
- Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
- Instrument Panel Module (IPM).
- Memory Seat Module.
- Navigation Display Head (NDH).
- Navigation Module (NAV).
- Navigation Radio (NRC).
- Onstar (ONS).
- Radio Module (IRC).
- Remote Function Actuator (RFA).
- Rear Integration Module (RIM).
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR).
- Tilt Telescope Module (TTM).
- Vehicle Theft Deterrent (VTD).
- Select the Display DTCs function for each module. If using a Tech 2, use the Class 2 DTC Check feature in order to determine which modules have DTCs set. Record all of the displayed DTCs, the DTC status and the module which set the DTC. If the scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If the scan tool does not display any DTCs, go to ENGINE ELECTRICAL SYMPTOMS .
- If the scan tool displays any DTCs which begin with a "U", go to BODY CONTROL MODULES. If the scan tool does not display any DTCs which begin with a "U", go to next step.
- If the scan tool displays DTC B1000, B1004, B1007 or B1009, go to BODY CONTROL MODULES. If the scan tool does not display DTC B1000, B1004, B1007 or B1009, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS table.
