Test A: Reverse Lockout System Inoperative
NOTE:
For circuit and terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
and WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Did you perform the diagnostic system check? If so, go to next step. If not, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Press and hold the brake pedal. Attempt to move the shift lever into REVERSE. Does the shift lever move to the REVERSE position? If so, go to step 6 . If not, go to next step.
- Turn OFF the ignition. Install a scan tool. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. With a scan tool, observe the reverse lockout parameter in the DIM data list. Does the scan tool display an OFF status? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 9 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the reverse lockout solenoid located on shift control assembly. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Press and hold the brake pedal. Attempt to move the shift lever into REVERSE. Does the shift lever move to the REVERSE position? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 8 .
- Test for a short to ground in the reverse lockout solenoid control circuit (Light Green wire). Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 14 . If not, go to step 9 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Disconnect the reverse lockout solenoid. Connect the test lamp between the reverse lockout solenoid voltage supply circuit (Brown wire) at the reverse lockout solenoid connector and a good ground. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Does the test lamp illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 10 .
- Turn OFF the ignition. Connect the test lamp between the reverse lockout solenoid voltage supply circuit (Brown wire) and the reverse lockout control circuit (Light Green wire) at the reverse lockout solenoid connector. Install a 10-amp fused jumper harness between the reverse lockout solenoid control circuit at the DIM harness connector and a good ground. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Does the test lamp illuminate? If so, go to step 9 . If not, go to step 11 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the reverse lockout solenoid. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 14 . If not, go to step 12 .
- Inspect for poor connections at the DIM harness connector. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 14 . If not, go to step 13 .
- Repair the open in the reverse lockout solenoid supply voltage circuit (Brown wire). Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 14 .
- Repair the open or short to battery positive voltage in the reverse lockout solenoid control circuit (Light Green wire). Did you complete the repair? If so, go to step 14 .
- Replace the reverse lockout solenoid. See SHIFT INTERLOCK ACTUATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the replacement? If so, go to step 14 .
- Replace the DIM. See DASH INTEGRATION MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Did you complete the replacement? If so, go to next step.
- Operate the vehicle within the conditions for duplicating the symptom. Did the condition return? If not, system is okay. If so, go to step 2 .
