30-Minute Learn Procedure

Use this procedure after replacing the Passkey® III (PK3) keys, theft deterrent control module or ECM.

NOTE: This procedure is not available on vehicles equipped with option code Z49 or BAE.
NOTE: If replacing a theft deterrent control module with an GM SPO replacement part, perform the procedure to setup a new theft deterrent control module prior to the 30-minute relearn procedure. See SET UP A NEW THEFT DETERRENT CONTROL MODULE .
  1. With a master Passkey® III key, turn ignition ON, with engine OFF.
  2. Observe the SECURITY telltale. After about 10 minutes, the telltale will turn off.
  3. Turn OFF ignition, and wait 5 seconds.
  4. Repeat steps  1 through  3 for 2 more times for a total of 3 cycles or 30 minutes.
  5. NOTE: The vehicle learns the key transponder information and/or passwords on ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the engine.
  6. With a master Passkey® III key, start engine. The vehicle has now learned the key transponder information and ECM has now learned the fuel continue password.
  7. NOTE: If more than one valet key is to be learned, immediately precede each valet key with a learned master key.
  8. If additional keys are required to be learned, using a previously learned master key, turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key. Within 10 seconds insert the key to be learned. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF. The vehicle has now learned the new key.
  9. Using scan tool, clear any DTCs.
