Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  2. Remove the ignition coil cover from the cam cover by lifting straight up, if equipped.
  3. Disconnect the secondary air injection (AIR) vent solenoid electrical connector, if necessary, to gain access to the individual coil being serviced.
  4. Remove the AIR check valve, if necessary, to gain access to the individual coil being serviced. Refer to Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Shut-Off Valve Replacement - Bank 1 .
  5. Disconnect the ignition coil wiring harness electrical connector from the coil that needs to be replaced.
  6. Remove the ignition coil retaining bolt.
  7. Carefully remove the ignition coil.

  9. If removal of all the coils are necessary, disconnect the main coil wiring harness at the cam cover.

  11. Remove the coil assembly retaining bolts and studs.
  12. Carefully remove the ignition coil assembly.
