FUEL TANK DATE CODE INSPECTION

NOTE: This inspection should be performed on 2005 1500 Series Cadillac Escalade EXT and Escalade ESV; Chevrolet Avalanche and Suburban; and GMC Yukon XL vehicles currently in your inventory that are included in the Administrative Message (U.S.) or Dealer Communication (Canada) VIN list prior to sale or delivery, but no later than March 31, 2005.

Condition

Dealers are to inspect for tanks with certain date codes and replace tanks that may not meed GM's quality expectations.

Correction

Raise and support the vehicle.
Locate the labels at the rear of the fuel tank.
Identify the lower label and look for the date code using the following sequence.

- T = TYPE OF LABEL
- R6 = FAMILY
- FS = FUEL SYSTEM
- 0495 = DATE CODE
- R = JUST FOR SEPARATING NUMBERS
- 1057 = CONSECUTIVE NUMBER FOR THE TANKS
If the date code is 0335, 0345, 0355, 0365, 0375, or 0385, continue the inspection.
If the date code is other than the above, the inspection is complete. No further action is required.
Locate the molded ID plate located on the bottom of the tank.

Inspect the ID plate for the mould cavity identifier.
If "MOULD B" is on the ID plate, the inspection is complete. No further action is required.
Inspect the ID plate below the word "INERGY".

If "CAV.2" is present of if what is present is illegible, proceed to Step 12.
If "CAV.2" is NOT present, the inspection is complete. No further action is required.
Drop the fuel tank using the appropriate service procedures in SI and inspect the top for white writing.

If the writing is "6v1A" or illegible, then replace the fuel tank using the appropriate procedure in SI.
If the writing is other than "6v1A", then re-install the tank.
Lower the vehicle.
