Removal Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2003 GMC Savana Special, 2003 GMC Savana Camper Special, 2003 GMC Savana, 2003 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 2003 Chevrolet Cutaway. Important: Before cutting out a stationary window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces and the interior trim.
- Remove the windshield wiper arms. Refer to WIPER ARM REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the fixed antenna, if equipped. Refer to FIXED ANTENNA MAST REPLACEMENT .
- Open the hood.
- Remove the air inlet grille. Refer to AIR INLET GRILLE PANEL REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the windshield frame filler panel. Refer to FILLER PANEL REPLACEMENT - UPPER FRONT FENDER .
- Remove the inside rearview mirror. Refer to Rearview Mirror Replacement .
- Remove the OnStar® navigation antenna. Refer to NAVIGATION ANTENNA REPLACEMENT .
- Remove the OnStar® cellular antenna. Refer to COUPLING REPLACEMENT - ANTENNA INNER
and COUPLING REPLACEMENT - ANTENNA OUTER
.WARNING: If broken glass falls into the defroster outlets, it can be blown into the passenger compartment and cause personal injury.
- Cover to protect the following parts from broken glass:
- The upper dash pad
- The defroster outlets and A/C outlets
- The seats
- The carpeting
- Remove the defroster vent grille. Refer to TRIM PAD REPLACEMENT - INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) UPPER
.WARNING: Refer to GLASS & SHEET METAL HANDLING CAUTION .
Important: The windshield reveal molding is a 1-piece molding and fills the cavities between the body and windshield.
If the windshield reveal molding is stretched or damaged, it can not be reused.
- Remove the windshield interior garnish moldings. Refer to GARNISH MOLDING REPLACEMENT - UPPER PILLAR .
- Using a sharp utility knife, carefully cut the edge of the reveal molding (1) in order to expose the urethane adhesive bead.
- Apply a double layer of masking tape to the edge of the roof panel.
- Apply a double layer of masking tape to the inner edges of the A-pillars.
- Remove the lower windshield supports (1) from the plenum panel, if equipped.
- Keep the cutting edge of the tool against the window. This will allow the urethane adhesive to be separated from the window.
- Leave a base of urethane on the pinchweld flange.
- The only suitable lubrication is clear water.
- Use J 24402-A , J 39032 or equivalent in order to remove the window.
- Remove the bottom of the window from the urethane adhesive using a long utility knife or similar tool. Keep the cutting edge of the utility knife against the glass. Do this from inside the vehicle.
- Remove the windshield (1) from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant (2).
