Hybrid Powertrain Control Module Scan Tool Information

The hybrid powertrain control module is a non-serviceable module within the power inverter module, often referred to as the drive motor generator power inverter module assembly. The Hybrid Powertrain Control Module Scan Tool Data Parameters list contains hybrid controls-related parameters. The list is arranged in alphabetical order. A given parameter may appear in any one of the data lists, and in some cases may appear more than once, or in more than one data list in order to group certain related parameters together.

Use the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module Scan Tool Data Parameters list only after the following is determined:

The scan tool values from a properly running vehicle may be used for comparison with the vehicle you are diagnosing. The Hybrid Powertrain Control Module Scan Tool Data Parameters list represents values that would be seen on a normally running vehicle.

NOTE:

A scan tool that displays faulty data should not be used. The scan tool concern should be reported to the manufacturer. Use of a faulty scan tool can result in misdiagnosis and unnecessary parts replacement.

Only the parameters listed below are referenced in this service manual for use in diagnosis. If all values are within the typical range described below, refer to Symptoms - Hybrid Controls for diagnosis.

    • Vehicle ON.
    • The internal combustion engine (ICE) must be running.
    • The drive motor battery state of charge must be greater than 25%.
    • The engine coolant temperature (ECT) must be between 68°C (154°F) and 109°C (228°F).
  • When operating in the Autostart mode, the following control limits apply:

    Vehicle ON

Aux. Trans. Pump Speed
  • The hybrid powertrain control module commands the auxiliary transmission fluid pump control module to turn the auxiliary pump ON and OFF. Additionally, the hybrid powertrain control module commands the auxiliary pump to operate at a certain speed (RPM).
  • When operating the Auxiliary Transmission Oil Pump Speed control, the following control limits apply:
    • The internal combustion engine (ICE) must be OFF.
    • Electric motor speed must be 0 RPM.
Clear Secured High Voltage DTC
  • This output control is used to clear a latched high voltage (HV) lockout state.
  • The hybrid powertrain control modules 1 and 2 monitor for high voltage safety conditions such as airbag deploy events and certain HV system faults.
  • If these conditions are present either module may set a DTC and prevent HV enabling until after this Output Control is exercised.
  • NOTE:

Performing a scan tool DTC Clear may clear the diagnostic that set the HV lockout state, but will not reset the lockout.

  • Always refer to Clear Secured High Voltage DTCs procedure in Hybrid/EV Energy Storage service information for the proper sequence of procedures required to reset a HV lockout state.
Continuous Charge Mode The hybrid powertrain control module allows selection of the battery charging mode as either "charge depleting" or "charge sustaining."
Regenerative Braking
  • The hybrid powertrain control module will enable or disable blended regenerative braking.
  • When the vehicle is ON there are no limits to this control.
