Removal Procedure

WARNING:

Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning .

CAUTION:

To prevent equipment damage, never connect or disconnect the wiring harness connection from the EBCM with the ignition switch in the ON position.

  1. Turn the ignition OFF.
  2. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement .
  3. Without draining the coolant and without disconnecting the hoses, remove and position aside the radiator surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement (LFX, LF3) .
  4. Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector.
  5. Thoroughly clean the electronic brake control module (EBCM) to brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) area of any accumulated dirt and debris.
  6. Disconnect the EBCM electrical connector.

  8. Disconnect the master cylinder secondary brake pipe fitting (1).
  9. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV inlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
  10. Disconnect the master cylinder primary brake pipe fitting (2).
  11. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV inlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  13. Disconnect the right rear brake pipe fitting (1).
  14. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
  15. Disconnect the left front brake pipe fitting (2).
  16. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  18. Disconnect the right front brake pipe fitting (1).
  19. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.
  20. Disconnect the left rear brake pipe fitting (2).
  21. Cap the brake pipe fitting and plug the BPMV outlet port to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  23. Remove the BPMV assembly bracket nuts (1).
  24. Remove the BPMV assembly.

  26. Remove the BPMV assembly bracket bolt (1).
  27. Carefully separate the BPMV assembly from the bracket.
  28. Remove the EBCM. Refer to Electronic Brake Control Module Replacement .
