Condition  During the programming of some ECM's, the technician may be prompted to input the engine identification number.
Cause  This is being done for calibration to engine tracking purposes.

CORRECTION

Enter the engine identification number that is found on the engine tag. Do not enter any spaces if they exist in the engine identification number.

For engine tag location, see Service Information under General Information > General Information > Vehicle, engine and transmission ID and VIN location, Derivative and Usage. Some of the typical locations are front timing cover and side of the engine block near the oil pan.

See the example below. The engine identification number is denoted by the red rectangle to illustrate which set of numbers to use. The actual tag on the engine does not have this red rectangle. The technician would type in N1122433A2J0278.
