Installation Procedure

  1. Position the steering column (1) in the vehicle.

  2. Steering Column Nut (1)» Install and tighten [4x] 22 N.m (16 lb ft)

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  3. Connect the steering column electrical connectors.
  4. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft (2) @ Steering Column» Install

    NOTE: Ensure the match marks on the upper intermediate steering shaft and steering column are aligned.
  5. Upper Intermediate Steering Shaft Upper Bolt (1)» Install and tighten 50 N.m (37 lb ft)
    1. Clean the threads of the bolt with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    2. Apply thread locking adhesive to the bolt. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants and Sealers 
  6. Steering Wheel (2)» Install - Steering Wheel Replacement

  7. Release the steering wheel from the method that was used to minimize movement.
  8. Floor Front Air Outlet Duct - Left Side (1)» Install - Floor Front Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side

  9. {If equipped} Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Bracket (1)» Install - Instrument Panel Lower Airbag Bracket Replacement

  10. Instrument Panel Knee Bolster (1)» Install - Instrument Panel Knee Bolster Replacement

  11. If equipped, install the fuse for the steering column lock control module. The fuse is found in the instrument panel fuse block and is labeled ESCL. Refer to Electrical Center Identification Views and/or Electrical Center Identification Views
  12. If battery was disconnected for steering column install, reconnect battery and wait for all modules to fall asleep. This can be done by closing all vehicle closures (doors, trunk, hood) and waiting for three minutes without actuating any vehicle functions or pushing any buttons.
  13. Perform functionality check of tilt and telescoping features.
  14. Enable the SIR System. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling
  15. Steering Column Lower Trim Cover (1)» Install - Steering Column Lower Trim Cover Replacement

  16. {If equipped} Program the steering column lock control module. Refer to Control Module References
  17. Center the steering angle sensor. Refer to Steering Wheel Angle Sensor Centering
