Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe Replacement

Refer to Diesel/Gasoline Vapors Warning .

NOTE:

High pressure fuel feed pipes are one time use only. ALWAYS install a NEW high pressure fuel feed pipe if the pipe is removed OR the fittings are loosened.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief 
  2. Fuel Pump Cover Replacement 
1 Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe Fitting [2x]
CAUTION:

Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution .

Procedure

  1. Ensure ALL fittings are clean and dry prior to assembly.
  2. Lubricate the fuel feed intermediate pipe fittings with silicon free engine oil.
  3. Start both ends of the NEW fuel feed intermediate pipe by hand.

Tighten 
First Pass: Tighten the fitting at the fuel injection fuel rail to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
Second Pass: Tighten the fitting at the fuel pump to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
Third Pass: Tighten the fitting at the fuel injection fuel rail to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
Final Pass: Tighten the fitting at the fuel pump to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
2 Fuel Feed Intermediate Pipe

Procedure

  1. Remove and DISCARD the pipe.
  2. Inspect for leaks using the following procedure:
    1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
    2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    3. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
    4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
NOTE:

If a fuel leak occurs at the fuel pump or the fuel injection fuel rail fitting, the corresponding component will need to be replaced.
