Seal Replacement
- REMOVE SHAFT NUT
Hold clutch hub stationary with spanner wrench. Remove shaft nut with a socket wrench. Remove lock washer (if so equipped).

Spanner Wrench
- REMOVE CLUTCH PLATE
Screw clutch front plate remover into hub. Tighten center screw and remove front plate and shims.
CAUTION: Do not use screwdrivers to pry front plate off of pulley, as this may damage front plate.Tool Reference No. 2
Front Plate Remover
- REMOVE PULLEY
Remove pulley snap ring and pull pulley assembly off of compressor.

External Snap Ring Pliers
- REMOVE COIL
Remove clutch coil snap ring disconnect wires and slide coil off of front cover.

- REMOVE KEY
Remove shaft key by gripping it with a side cutter and puling. A shaft key removal tool may also be used.
- REMOVE FRONT COVER
Remove 6 compressor through bolts. Then, remove front cover by tapping on cover outside diameter with a plastic hammer. Remove and discard front cover "O" ring.
- REMOVE VALVE PLATE
If reed valve assembly came off with front cover, lift inlet reed valve from cover and use valve plate remover to pull valve plate out of cover. Carefully remove gasket from valve plate.

Valve Plate Remover
- REMOVE SEAL
Remove shaft seal by sliding it off of shaft. If seal came off with front cover, pull seal out of cover.
- REMOVE SEAL SEAT
Remove dowel pins from front cover and place cover on a flat surface with cover neck facing up. Remove felt seal retainer (Chrysler only) and felt seal from cover neck. Using a drift drive seal seat out of cover.
- INSTALL SEAL SEAT
Lubricate seal seat and seal seat "O" ring with refrigeration oil. Select installer tool or socket with same diameter as outer diameter of seal seat. Use installer tool or socket to install seal seat in front cover with groove on sealing surface facing up.
- INSTALL SEAL
If reed valve assembly came off with front cover, install dowel pins in compressor body and carefully position inlet reed valve, valve plate and new gasket on compressor body with holes aligned with dowel pins. Lubricate seal with refrigeration oil and slide it onto shaft with sealing surface toward end of shaft.
- INSTALL FRONT COVER
Lubricate a new front cover "O" ring with refrigeration oil and position it in groove. Carefully install front cover, ensuring holes are aligned with dowel pins. Install 6 compressor through bolts and torque to 260 INCH lbs. (Chrysler) or 18-19 ft. lbs. (Ford). Install shaft key. Install felt seal (call compressors) and felt seal retainer (Chrysler only in front cover neck.
- INSTALL COIL
Ensure coil alignment pin is tightly seated in front cover. Install coil, making sure hole on back of coil aligns with pin. Install snap ring, bevel side out, making sure it is fully seated in groove. Reconnect wires.

External Snap Ring Pliers
- INSTALL PULLEY
Install pulley assembly. If necessary, hold block of wood on grease slinger and tap gently until pulley is seated. Install snap ring, bevel side out, making sure it is fully seated in groove.
CAUTION: Do nor mar frictional (front) surface of pulley. Straighten grease slinger if distorted by tapping. - INSTALL CLUTCH PLATE
Install shims and clutch front plate on shaft. With front plate tight against shims, measure for a 0.020 - 0.035" air gap between plate and pulley face. Add or subtract shims as necessary. Install lock washer (if so equipped) and shaft nut. Hold hub with spanner wrench and torque nut to 12 ft. lbs. Recheck air gap.
