Isolating Compressor (AMERICAN Motors Only)
- Connect service gauge set to compressor service valves and open compressor valves lightly (turn in clockwise). Start engine and operate air conditioning system. Slowly turn compressor suction valve stem clockwise toward front-seated (closed) position.
- When suction pressure is reduced to zero or less, torn off engine and compressor and quickly turn (clockwise) suction valve stem in, to full front-seated position. Suction pressure should read slightly above zero. Also turn discharge service valve stem fully in, to front-seated position.
- Check oil as described in step 3) of oil check procedure. When oil check is complete, purge air from compressor by performing the following steps:
- Cap service gauge ports on both service valves. Back-seat suction service valve to allow refrigerant to enter compressor. Then, turn discharge service valve to the mid (cracked) position.
- Loosen discharge service valve gauge port cap. This will permit refrigerant to force air out of compressor. Back-seat discharge service valve and tighten gauge port cap. Compressor is now ready for service.
