Injection Pump: Installation

Install MVS with new "O" ring. Apply Loctite 242 to MVS threads. Tighten to 30 INCH Lbs. (3.5 N.m).
Position No. 1 cylinder at TDC compression stroke by aligning mark on balancer with zero mark on engine. Align offset tang on pump driveshaft with pump driven gear. On V8, offset is to the right. See Fig 1 . On V6, offset is down. See Fig 2 .

Install new pump-to-flange assembly "O" ring. Install pump and fully seat by hand. If new flange assembly is installed, set injection pump at center of slots in pump mounting flange.
If original flange assembly is being used, align pump timing mark with mark on flange assembly. Install retaining bolts/nuts and washers.
Tighten nuts (V8) to 18 ft. lbs. (24 N.m). Tighten bolts (V6) to 37 ft. lbs. (51 N.m). Connect injection lines to pump. Install injection line clamps. Connect fuel return line.
On V8 engine, install fuel filter, Crankcase Depression Regulator Valve, and rear A/C compressor brace. On all models, install throttle and T.V. cables into intake manifold.
On V6 engine, connect throttle cable and T.V. cable to pump throttle lever. Connect throttle return spring. Adjust T.V. cable. See Adjustments in this article.
On V8 engine, connect throttle rod and return spring. Adjust throttle linkage. See Adjustments in this article.
Start engine and check for leaks. Check and if necessary, reset pump timing. See Adjustments in this article.
Adjust vacuum regulator valve if its original position is disturbed or a replacement pump has been installed. See Adjustments in this article.
Remove screened covers and install air crossover. Install tubes and hoses in air crossover. Reset idle speed. See appropriate article in TUNE-UP Section. Install air cleaner and EGR valve hose.
