Fuel Pump/Distributor Removal

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect wiring harness at side of distributor cap. Remove spark plug wire retaining clips. Mark rotor position to distributor housing and distributor housing to engine for later reassembly reference. Remove distributor cap and position out of way. Remove coil wires and coil assembly. Remove air cleaner.
  2. Disconnect fuel pump inlet and outlet hoses. Plug inlet hose to prevent fuel loss/spillage while disconnected.
  3. Remove fuel pump, push rod and gasket. Scribe marks on engine in line with rotor and vacuum advance unit.
  4. Remove distributor hold-down nut and clamp. Remove distributor from engine.
NOTE: On some models, it may be necessary to remove power steering pump and or A/C unit (if equipped).
