Code A017, Enable Relay Coil Circuit Shorted To Ground: Notes
Ignition voltage is supplied through terminal No. 5 of enable relay. EBCM energizes enable relay pull-in coil by completing ground circuit at EBCM terminal No. 22. The magnetic field created will close enable relay contacts to supply battery voltage to EBCM, providing power to motors and solenoids.
This code checks if enable relay is energized when it should not be. Code A017 prevents enable relay from removing power from ABS system. If a second fault occurs and turns off enable relay, fault cannot be removed if relay cannot be controlled.
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
- Determines if EBCM is capable of controlling enable relay.
- Checks for short to ground in enable relay or control circuit No. 879 (Purple/White wire).
- Checks if EBCM is internally shorted to ground. A grounded EBCM terminal No. 22 will cause enable relay to be energized whenever ignition is on.
