Code 84, 2ND To 3RD Gear BLOCKOUT Relay - M/T: Notes

Ignition voltage is supplied to 2nd and 3rd gear blockout relay. PCM controls relay by providing a ground during certain light load operating conditions. Relay in turn energizes solenoid on transmission. When solenoid is enabled, transmission can be shifted from 1st to 4th gear only. This maximizes fuel economy.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. Tech-1 will energize circuit for 5 seconds. 2 Detects a partially shorted coil which would cause excessive current flow. Leave circuit energized for 2 minutes to allow coil to warm. Coil may then open, causing amperage to drop to zero.
