Diagnostic Procedures
- Perform ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK. See the BASIC TESTING article. Read and record FREEZE FRAME and/or FAIL RECORDS data for each DTC set. After performing OBD system check, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using a test light connected to battery voltage, probe oil level switch signal circuit at PCM harness connector. If test light illuminates, go to step 6). If light does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect PCM harness connector. Turn ignition on. Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect oil level switch connector. Using DVOM, check voltage between oil level switch connector terminals. If DVOM reads near battery voltage, go to step 7). If not, go to next step.
- Connect DVOM between oil level switch signal circuit and chassis ground. If DVOM reads near battery voltage, go to step 8). If not, go to next step.
- Check for open in oil level switch signal circuit. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 11). If circuit is okay, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS.
- Check for poor terminal connections at PCM. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 11). If connections are okay, go to step 10).
- Check for poor connections at oil level switch. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 11). If connections are okay, go to step 9).
- Locate and repair open in oil level switch ground circuit. After repairs, go to step 11).
- Replace engine oil level switch. After replacing switch, go to step 11).
- Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, read and record FAIL RECORDS data, and clear DTCs. Operate vehicle within conditions noted in FAIL RECORDS data. Using scan tool, select SPECIFIC DTC INFO for DTC P1672. If scan tool displays DTC P1672 FAILED THIS IGN, return to step 2). If scan tool does not display DTC P1672 FAILED THIS IGN, repair is complete.
