System Self-Test (Initialization)

The initialization is a 2-step process. It starts when ignition switch is first turned to ON position.

  1. During the first part of the initialization, the EBCM will verify ABS relay operation. Also, the EBCM commands the ABS and ABS ACTIVE indicator lights ON for about 2-3 seconds. The Red BRAKE warning indicator light is briefly flashed ON.
  2. The second part of this process starts when the vehicle reaches 3 MPH. During this process, the EBCM will verify motor, hydraulic modulator and solenoids by using specific control schemes to verify all components are functioning properly. A slight mechanical noise may be heard during the system initialization, which is normal. If your foot is on the brake pedal during this process, a slight movement in the pedal may be felt.
