Shift Cable

WARNING: Adjust shift cable so engine will start with transaxle in Park or Neutral only. Misadjusted shift linkage could cause clutch and/or band failure in transaxle.
NOTE: Most FWD vehicles are equipped with a self-adjusting shift cable.
  1. Set parking brake. Place gearshift in Neutral. Loosen inner and outer lock nuts. See Fig 1. Ensure transaxle shift lever is in Neutral. Tighten outer lock nut by hand until it contacts control lever.
  2. Using an open-end wrench, tighten inner lock nut. Ensure transaxle operates in all gear positions. Ensure vehicle will not move with ignition switch in LOCK position, and transaxle gearshift lever in Park. Ensure correct operation in other gearshift positions.
