Data Link Communications Diagnostic System Check
- Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC) and turn scan tool on. If scan tool turns on, go to next step. If scan tool does not turn on, see scan tool manufacture's instructions.
- Attempt to communicate with following systems:
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Traction Control System (TCS).
- Real Time Damping (RTD).
- Body Control Module (BCM).
- Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
- Radio.
- Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC).
- Left Door Control Module (LDCM).
- Right Door Control Module (RDCM).
- Seat Control Module (SCM).
- Remote Function Actuation (RFA).
- Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM).
If scan tool communicates with these systems, go to step 5 . If scan tool does not communicate with all systems, go to next step.
- If scan tool communicates with some systems, go to next step. If scan tool cannot communicate with any of these systems, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH SERIAL DATA LINE .
- Attempt to communicate with BCM. If scan tool communicates with BCM, go to step 7 . If scan tool will not communicate with BCM, go to BCM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK .
- Check for communication DTCs (communication DTCs begin with "U"). If DTCs U1255, U1300 or U1301 are set, go to DTC U1255: SERIAL DATA LINE MALFUNCTION , DTC U1300: SERIAL DATA LINE SHORT TO GROUND or DTC U1301: SERIAL DATA LINE SHORT TO VOLTAGE under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS. If no DTCs are set, go to next step.
- If any system has any communication DTCs stored as current or history, go to appropriate DTC diagnostic and repair procedure. See BCM DTC DEFINITIONS table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- See appropriate diagnostic and repair procedures for system that cannot communicate with scan tool. After repairs, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Clear all communication DTCs with scan tool. Recheck system operation. Go to 2 .
NOTE:
BCM sends ignition position status to all systems on serial data line. Some systems depend on the ignition status to function. BCM must communicate before any other system.
NOTE:
Communication DTCs do not necessarily indicate a problem. Communication DTCs are an aid in diagnosing an intermittent communication malfunction that is accompanied by a symptom. If vehicle does not experience a symptom related to the communication malfunction, the DTCs can be ignored.
