Body Control System Diagnostic System Check

  1. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT POWER UP  .
  2. Turn ignition on. Attempt to establish communication with Body Control Module (BCM). If scan tool communicates with BCM, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with BCM, go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  .
  3. If any communication DTCs exist (DTCs beginning with a "U"), go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE  . If no communication DTCs exist, perform appropriate test. See BODY CONTROL SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table.

(1) Perform appropriate test under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS  .
(2) Diagnose and repair circuit as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS article.

(4) Diagnose and repair charging system as necessary. See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEMS.
(5) Diagnose and repair circuit as necessary. See HEADLIGHT SYSTEMS & DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS article.
(6) Diagnose and repair circuit as necessary. See ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
(7) See appropriate ELECTRONIC CONTROLS article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.
(8) Diagnose and repair horn circuit as necessary. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
(9) See appropriate ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS article.
(10) See appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
(11) Go to SCAN TOOL DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WITH CLASS 2 DEVICE.
