DTC B1483: Battery Rundown Protection Circuit High: Description

In order to minimize battery rundown, BCM can detect if certain electrical loads are left on. When BCM detects ignition has been cycled to OFF position, BCM immediately check status of the load monitor input circuit. If BCM detects a load exists, BCM will keep battery rundown protection relay on for 10 minutes by grounding battery rundown protection relay circuit. If after 10 minutes BCM still detects a load exists, BCM will turn off battery rundown protection relay, removing battery voltage from the load(s). BCM will continue to monitor the load monitor input circuit for a switch transition. If a switch transition exists, BCM will turn on relay again for 10 minutes.

DTC B1483 will set and store in memory if BCM is commanding battery rundown protection relay to de-energize and detects a short to power for longer than 0.3 seconds. A current DTC B1483 will clear if short to power in battery rundown protection relay control circuit is no longer detected. A history DTC B1483 will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if condition for malfunction no longer exists. A scan tool can be used to clear DTC B1483.
