Theft Deterrent Relearn

NOTE: Perform this procedure if BCM has been replaced and programmed or if ignition lock cylinder has been replaced. If theft deterrent relearn procedure is not performed when BCM is replaced, vehicle may not be protected by anti-theft system or engine will not crank or start.
NOTE: Ensure battery is fully charged before performing this procedure. Programming theft deterrent relearn will take about 30 minutes.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position.
  2. Turn ignition switch to START position then turn back to RUN position (engine will not crank). SECURITY indicator should come on for about 10 minutes, then turn off. When SECURITY indicator turns off, turn ignition switch to LOCK position for 5 seconds.
  3. Repeat step  2 again.
  4. Repeat step  2 again.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Turn ignition switch to START position. Engine should now start. Check for BCM DTCs and repair as necessary. See BCM DTC DEFINITIONS  table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
