DTC 42: Remote Transmitter Not Assigned To Body Control Module: Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Digital Radio Frequency (RF) message received was from a remote transmitter not programmed to Body Control Module (BCM). Remote transmitter function capabilities will not exist. DTC 42 will set when remote transmitter was used without programming it to BCM. If remote transmitter was already programmed, remote transmitter may be defective. DTC 42 will also set if another remote transmitter was operated in same area. BCM should be placed in Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system programming mode. All remote transmitters must be programmed to BCM during same programming mode cycle. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER  under PROGRAMMING.
