Lock Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Pontiac Firebird and 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Enter Body Control Module (BCM) diagnostic mode. See USING SECURITY INDICATOR  under RETRIEVING BODY CONTROL MODULE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES. While in diagnostic mode, if certain BCM inputs are activated or deactivated, BCM will respond with various indicators. For example, if a door lock switch is pressed, or if door or rear compartment lid is opened or closed, BCM will flash fasten seat belt indicator light and will sound an audible warning tone. BCM will also attempt to perform operation normally performed by that switch transition. As long as system is functioning properly, BCM will lock door. This is a way to test door lock actuators, switches and associated wiring without removing door trim or components.
