Test D: Keyless Entry System Inoperative

  1. If power door lock system check has been performed, go to next step. If power door lock system check has not been performed, perform power door lock system check. See appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
  2. If trunk lid release system check has been performed, go to next step. If trunk lid release system check has not been performed, perform trunk lid release system check. See TRUNK LID RELEASE SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Remote Control Door Lock Receiver (RCDLR) 16-pin harness connector. RCDLR is located under right side of rear window trim. Measure voltage between ground and RCDLR harness connector terminal "F" (Light Green wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short to ground in Light Green wire between RCDLR and engine wiring harness junction block No. 1.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and RCDLR harness connector terminal "E" (Orange wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short to ground in Orange wire between RCDLR and instrument panel fuse block.
  5. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and RCDLR harness connector terminal "J" (Pink wire). See Figure . If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair open or short to ground in Pink wire between RCDLR and instrument panel fuse block.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and RCDLR harness connector terminal "N" (Black wire). If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 2 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between RCDLR and ground. Ground point is located at base of right "B" pillar. After repair, go to step  15 .
  7. Resynchronize all Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitters. See TRANSMITTER RESYNCHRONIZATION  under PROGRAMMING. If door locks cycle while resynchronizing transmitters, go to next step. If door locks do not cycle while resynchronizing transmitter, go to step  9 .
  8. Check operation of RKE transmitters. If RKE system does not operate, go to step  10 . If RKE system operates, go to step  15 .
  9. Measure voltage of RKE transmitter battery. If voltage is 3.0-3.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 3.0-3.5 volts, go to step  11 .
  10. Reprogram all transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. Check operation of RKE transmitters. If RKE system does not operate normally, go to step  12 . If RKE system operates normally, go to step  15 .
  11. Replace RKE transmitter battery. Resynchronize RKE transmitter. See TRANSMITTER RESYNCHRONIZATION  under PROGRAMMING. If door locks did not cycle during resynchronization of transmitters, go to next step. If door locks cycle during resynchronization of transmitters, go to step  10 .
  12. Program known-good RKE transmitter. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING. Using RKE transmitter, test system operation. If keyless entry system operates normally, go to next step. If keyless entry system does not operate normally, go to step  14 .
  13. Replace defective RKE transmitter(s). After repair, go to step  15 .
  14. Check RCDLR harness connector for poor terminal contact and repair as necessary. If connector is okay, replace RCDLR. After repair, go to next step.
  15. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Reconnect any harness connectors or components removed. Verify system operation. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
