Diagnostic Procedure

  1. Perform powertrain diagnostic system check. See POWERTRAIN DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. After performing powertrain diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, command change engine oil level light on and off. If change engine oil level light turns on and off as commanded, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If change engine oil level light does not turn on and off as commanded, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) harness connector. Turn ignition on. Connect a test light between ground and IPC harness connector terminal C1 (Pink wire). See Figure. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  10.
  4. Connect test light between IPC harness connector terminals C1 (Pink wire) and C11 (Gray wire). Using scan tool, command change engine oil light on and off. If test light turns on and off with each command, go to step  8. If test light does not turn on and off with each command, go to next step.
  5. If test light remains illuminated with each command, go to step  7. If test light does not remain illuminated with each command, go to next step.
  6. Check for open or short to voltage in control circuit (Gray wire) between IPC harness connector terminal C11 and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 36. See Figure. PCM is located on right side of engine compartment, in front of strut tower. Repair circuit as necessary, then go to step  13. If circuit is okay, go to step  9.
  7. Check for short to ground in control circuit (Gray wire) between IPC harness connector terminal C11 and PCM harness connector C2 terminal No. 36. Repair circuit as necessary, then go to step  13. If circuit is okay, go to step  9.
  8. Check for poor connections at IPC. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  13. If connections are okay, go to step  11.
  9. Check for poor connections at PCM. If a problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  13. If connections are okay, go to step  12.
  10. Repair Pink wire between IPC harness connector terminal C1 and fuse No. 39 (10-amp) located in fuse block. Fuse block is located on right end of instrument panel. After repairs, go to step  13.
  11. Replace change engine oil light bulb. After repairs, go to step  13.
  12. Replace PCM. Program replacement PCM using required equipment. See PROGRAMMING . After replacing PCM, go to next step.
  13. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle under conditions described in CODE ENABLE CRITERIA . If DTC resets, go to step  2. If DTC does not reset, system is okay.
