DTC B2965: Key-In-Ignition Fault: Testing

  1. If Body Control Module (BCM) diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If Body Control Module (BCM) diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  2. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read BCM INPUT for KEY IN IGNITION. If scan tool does not display KEY IN IGNITION YES, go to next step. If scan tool displays KEY IN IGNITION YES, go to DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  3. Disconnect Gray 24-pin BCM connector C2. Turn ignition on. Using test light connected to battery positive terminal, check for ground at BCM connector C2 terminal B12 (Light Green wire). See Figure . If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates (ground exists), go to step  5 .
  4. Check continuity of Light Green wire between BCM harness connector C2 terminal B12 and Black 6-pin ignition switch connector terminal "D". Check continuity of Black/White wire between Black 6-pin ignition switch connector terminal "E" and ground splice pack, located above left I/P junction block. If no problem is found, go to next step. If open circuit is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  9 .
  5. Check for corrosion or damage at BCM and harness connector terminals. If no problem is found, go to step  7 . If any problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  9 .
  6. Check for corrosion or damage at ignition switch and harness connector terminals. If no problem is found, go to step  8 . If any problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  9 .
  7. Replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM)  under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step  9 .
  8. Replace ignition switch. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - MALIBU article. After repair, go to next step.
  9. Reconnect all disconnected components and connectors. Clear DTCs. Perform BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
