Keyless Entry System Inoperative
NOTE:
A short to ground will cause an open fuse. Check fuse for an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
. Check BCM for DTCs prior to servicing RKE system. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM
. If any DTCs are present, go to that diagnostic test. See DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
.
- If diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If diagnostic system check was not performed, see DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
- Check power door lock function using door mounted switch. If power door lock functions properly, go to next step. If power door lock does not function properly, see appropriate POWER DOOR LOCKS article.
- Check trunk release function using instrument panel mounted switch. If trunk lid release functions properly, go to next step. If trunk lid release does not function properly, repair wiring as necessary. See POWER REAR COMPARTMENT & FUEL DOOR RELEASE SYSTEMS article.
- Turn on Keyless Entry Tester (J43241). Place transmitter on keyless entry tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or the Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and the Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step 9 .
- If none of the buttons sound tone or illuminate the Green light, go to next step. If any button sounds tone and illuminates Green light, replace transmitter. Go to step 8 .
- Replace transmitter battery. Resynchronize transmitter. See TRANSMITTER RESYNCHRONIZATION under PROGRAMMING. Go to next step.
- Replace RKE transmitter, and go to step 12 .
- Press instant alarm button on transmitter. If instant alarm function operates normally, go to next step. If instant alarm function does not operate normally, go to step 12 .
- Resynchronize transmitter. See TRANSMITTER RESYNCHRONIZATION under PROGRAMMING . If horns chirp 3 times, go to next step. If horns do not chirp 3 times, go to step 12 .
- Operate transmitter within range of vehicle. If all RKE functions do not operate normally, go to next step. If all RKE functions operate normally, go to step 21 .
- Program transmitter. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING under PROGRAMMING. If horns do not chirp 3 times, then unlock, go to next step. If horns chirp 3 times, go to step 21 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect RCDLR. Connect a test light between RCDLR connector terminal No. 1 (Orange wire) and ground. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, repair open, high resistance or short to ground in Orange wire between left instrument panel junction block and RCDLR. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Go to step 21 .
- Connect a test light between RCDLR connector terminal No. 4 (Black wire) and battery positive. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, repair open or high resistance in Black wire between RCDLR and ground (G203). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Go to step 21 .
- Disconnect test light. Turn ignition on, engine off. Using a DVOM, measure voltage between RCDLR connector terminal No. 2 (Light Green wire) and ground. If 4-5 volts is not present, go to next step. If 4-5 volts is present, go to step 19 .
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Connect a test light between terminal No. 2 (Light Green wire) and ground. If test light is on, go to next step. If test light is off, go to step 18 .
- Check Light Green wire between RCDLR and BCM for short to power. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If problem was found, repair as necessary, and go to step 21 . If problem was not found, go to step 19 .
- Check Light Green wire between RCDLR and BCM for open, high resistance or short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If problem was found, repair as necessary, and go to step 21 . If problem was not found, go to step 20 .
- Check RCDLR connector for poor connections. If connector is okay, replace RCDLR. See REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reprogram transmitters. See TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING under PROGRAMMING. Go to step 21 .
- Check BCM connectors for poor connections. If connectors are okay, replace BCM. See appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article. Go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair.
NOTE:
Inspect keyless entry transmitter to ensure it is correct model for this vehicle. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate vehicle remote system.
