Description & Operation

System components consist of an accessory power relay, power window switches and power window motors for each door. See Fig 1 . Ignition switch must be in ON or START position for power windows to operate. Power window operation is controlled by switch assemblies. The power window master switch controls all of the power window motors. Individual window switches control window motor for that door.

Power window master switch offers one-touch operation of driver's side window. Power window master switch also includes a lock-out feature to prevent passengers from operating power windows from individual switches. If power window master switch lock-out switch is pressed, only power window master switch may be operated, but other power windows can still be controlled from power window master switch. Press power window master switch lock-out switch again to unlock windows.

Auto down feature permits driver's window to be fully lowered without holding switch until window has reached the end of its travel. Moving switch all the way back will engage auto down feature.

Power window motors contain an Electronic Circuit Breaker (ECB) incorporated in window motor. ECB will stop motor at the end of window travel. ECB resistance increases when power window is overloaded. Resistance will return to normal when voltage is removed from motor terminals.

Power to accessory power relay is supplied from battery through POWER fuse. Power for the power window system is from ignition switch through ECU-IG fuse, to GAUGE fuse. GAUGE fuse activates accessory power relay. For component location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS  .
