Charge Indicator Light Always On

  1. Perform charging system check. See CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  . Go to next step.
  2. Disconnect generator connector. Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to step  4 .
  3. Repair or replace generator. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Recheck system.
  4. Check for short to ground on Yellow wire between instrument cluster connector C4 terminal No. 13 and generator connector terminal No. 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If short to ground does not exist, go to next step. If short to ground exists, go to step  6 .
  5. Repair or replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Recheck system.
  6. Repair short to ground on Yellow wire between instrument cluster and generator. Recheck system.
