Charge Indicator Light Inoperative

  1. Perform charging system check. See CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  .
  2. Disconnect generator connector. Using a fused jumper wire, connect generator harness connector terminal No. 1 (Yellow wire) to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to step  8 .
  3. Check charge indicator light bulb. Replace as necessary. Using a fused jumper wire, connect (backprobe) instrument cluster connector C4 terminal No. 13 (Yellow wire) to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to step  5 .
  4. Check for voltage between instrument cluster connector C4 terminal No. 10 (Black/Orange wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If battery voltage exists, go to step  7 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to step  6 .
  5. Repair open circuit on Yellow wire between instrument cluster and generator. Recheck system.
  6. Check for open circuit on Black/Orange wire between instrument cluster connector C4 terminal No. 10 and junction block No. 2 connector C5 terminal No. 8. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If wiring is okay, go to step  12 . If an open exists, go to step  13 .
  7. Check instrument cluster printed circuit for poor connections or cracks. Repair or replace as necessary. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Recheck system.
  8. Ensure ignition is on. Check for voltage between generator connector terminal No. 2 (Red/Blue wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step  15 .
  9. Ensure ignition is on. Check for voltage between multifunction alarm module connector C2 terminal No. 9 (Red/Blue wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, go to step  11 .
  10. Turn ignition off. Remove multifunction alarm module from junction block No. 2. Turn ignition on. Check for voltage between junction block No. 2 terminal No. 9 and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If battery voltage exists, go to step  14 . If battery voltage does not exist, go to step  12 .
  11. Repair open circuit on Red/Blue wire between multifunction alarm module connector C2 terminal No. 9 and generator connector terminal No. 2. Recheck system.
  12. Replace junction block No. 2. Recheck system.
  13. Repair open circuit on Black/Orange wire between instrument cluster and junction block No. 2. Recheck system.
  14. Replace multifunction alarm module. Recheck system.
  15. Repair or replace generator. Recheck system.
