Charge Indicator Light Inoperative
- Perform charging system check. See CHARGING SYSTEM TEST .
- Disconnect generator connector. Using a 20-amp fused jumper wire, connect generator harness connector terminal No. 1 (White/Red wire) to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If charge indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to step 5.
- Disconnect fused jumper wire. Using a DVOM, check voltage between generator harness connector terminal No. 2 (Black/White wire) and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 9.
- Remove generator and replace regulator. Recheck system.
- Check charge indicator light bulb. Replace as necessary. Using a 20-amp fused jumper wire, connect (backprobe) instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 4 (White/Red wire) to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to step 7.
- Repair open circuit in White/Red wire between instrument cluster and generator. Recheck system.
- Check for open circuit in Black/White wire between instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 14 and junction block connector C4 terminal No. 1. If wiring is okay, go to next step. If an open exists, repair open and retest system.
- Check instrument cluster printed circuit for poor connections or cracks. Repair or replace as necessary. Recheck system.
- Repair open circuit on Black/White wire between generator harness connector terminal No. 2 and junction block connector C3 terminal No. 3. Recheck system.
