Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disable SIR system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove inflator module and steering wheel.
  2. Remove tilt lever. Remove ONLY lower steering column shroud. Remove fasteners ONLY from upper shroud. Lift upper steering column shroud to gain access to lock cylinder access hole. Insert a bent tip awl into ignition lock cylinder access hole. Turn ignition switch to START position and use bent tip awl to push down on ignition lock cylinder retainer. Release ignition lock cylinder to RUN position. Remove ignition lock cylinder from lock module.
  3. Remove lower instrument panel insulator. Remove knee bolster. Remove upper steering column shroud. Disconnect electrical connector at base of steering column. Pull PASS-Key(R) III module from ignition lock cylinder housing. Remove electrical connector and wires from steering column. To install, reverse removal procedure. Perform appropriate programming procedure new module and all vehicle transponder ignition keys. See PROGRAMMING in ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - MONTANA, SILHOUETTE & VENTURE article.
