Charge Indicator Light Always On

  1. Connect scan tool. With scan tool, observe IGNITION 1 parameter in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) data list. If voltage is 11.0-15.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 11.0-15.5 volts, check generator. See CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  .
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector C1. Turn ignition on. If charge indicator light is not on, go to next step. If charge indicator light is on, replace instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. Reconnect all connectors and recheck system.
  3. Check PCM connector. Clean or repair as necessary. If no problem was found, replace PCM. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - TRUCKS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Recheck system.
