Charge Indicator Light Inoperative

  1. Using scan tool, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If DTCs exist, repair as necessary.
  2. Turn ignition off. Turn ignition on, engine off. If battery charge indicator light did not illuminate during bulb check, go to next step. If battery charge indicator light illuminated during bulb check, system is good.
  3. Check instrument panel connector for poor connections. If connector is good, replace instrument cluster. See appropriate INSTRUMENT PANELS article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If problem still exists, go to next step.
  4. Check Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors for poor connections. If connectors are good, replace PCM. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - TRUCKS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
