Test E: Power Window Inoperative From Master Switch

  1. If door system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step. If door system diagnostic system check has not been performed, go to DOOR SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
  2. If both front power windows do not operate normally, go to next step. If both front power windows operate normally, perform procedure while wiggling related wiring and connectors. This can often cause an intermittent malfunction to appear.
  3. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Disconnect suspect window motor 2-pin harness connector. Connect a test light between ground and suspect window motor harness connector Dark Blue wire terminal (driver window) or Light Blue wire terminal (passenger window). Press appropriate window switch in up and down positions while observing test light. Connect a test light between ground and suspect window motor harness connector Brown wire terminal (driver window) or Tan wire terminal (passenger window). Press appropriate window switch in up and down positions while observing test light. If test light illuminates when window was commanded up or commanded down, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate when window was commanded up or commanded down, go to step  5 .
  4. If test light illuminates when window was commanded up and commanded down, go to step  6 . If test light does not illuminate when window was commanded up and commanded down, go to step  8 .
  5. Check for open in Dark Blue wire (driver window) or Light Blue wire (passenger window), and Brown wire (driver window) or Tan wire (passenger window) between suspect window motor harness connector and master window switch. If problem is not found, go to step  7 . If problem is found, repair appropriate wire as necessary. After repairs, go to step  11 .
  6. Check for poor connections at appropriate window motor. If problem is not found, go to step  10 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  11 .
  7. Check for poor connections at master window switch. If problem is not found, go to step  9 . If problem is found, repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step  11 .
  8. Repair short to ground in appropriate wire between suspect window motor and master window switch. After repairs, go to step  11 .
  9. Replace master window switch. See MASTER WINDOW SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step  11 .
  10. NOTE: Information for window motor removal and installation not available from manufacturer. See FRONT WINDOW REGULATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  11. Replace appropriate window motor.
  12. Operate power windows to verify repair. If power windows operate correctly, system is okay. If power windows do not operate correctly, go to step  2 .
