Test B: Charge Indicator Light Always On

  1. If charging system check was performed, go to next step. If charging system check was not performed, go to TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  .
  2. Disconnect generator 3-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to step  4 .
  3. Repair or replace generator. See GENERATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, recheck system. See TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  .
  4. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect Daytime Running Lights (DRL) module connector, located under left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. If charge indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If charge indicator light illuminates, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace DRL module. See DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, recheck system. See TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  .
  6. Test White/Red wire between instrument cluster connector C1 terminal No. 1 and generator connector terminal No. 2 for short to ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If problem exists, go to next step. If no problem exists, go to step  8 .
  7. Repair short to ground in White/Red wire between instrument cluster and generator. After repairs are made, recheck system. See TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  .
  8. Repair or replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - METRO article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are made, recheck system. See TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  .
