Shift Interlock Systems: Operation

Voltage is supplied through the BACK fuse (15-amp) to the transaxle range (TR) switch when the ignition switch is in the ON position or the START position. When you move the gearshift lever to the PARK position and depress the brake pedal, the voltage applies through the closed contacts of the TR switch and the stoplamp switch to the shift lock solenoid. The shift lock solenoid permanently grounds at the grounding point located at deck lid striker area. When the voltage applies, the shift lock solenoid energizes. The shift lock solenoid releases the gearshift lever locking mechanism.
