Valve Clearance: Metro
NOTE:
When checking valve clearance, insert the feeler gauge between camshaft and cam-riding face of rocker arm.
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove rocker cover and gaskets. Rotate crankshaft until cylinder No. 1 is at TDC of compression stroke. Ensure timing mark on crankshaft pulley aligns with "0" mark on engine front cover tab. Verify that rocker arms of No. 1 cylinder are off respective cam lobes of camshaft. If rocker arms of No. 1 cylinder are not as specified, rotate crankshaft one revolution (360 degrees) and realign crankshaft pulley mark.
- Using a feeler gauge, measure valve clearance on No. 1 cylinder intake and exhaust valves, No. 2 cylinder intake valves, and No. 3 cylinder exhaust valves. Adjust as necessary. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS (METRO) . Rotate crankshaft clockwise one revolution (360 degrees). Using a feeler gauge, measure valve clearance on No. 3 cylinder intake valves, No. 4 cylinder intake and exhaust valves and No. 2 cylinder exhaust valves. Adjust as necessary. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS (METRO) . Disconnect negative battery cable. Install rocker cover and gaskets. Reconnect negative battery cable.
