Description & Operation

WARNING: Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting any repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.

Each power window is operated by a permanent-magnet motor. Master power switch assembly, located in driver's door, controls all power window motors. Individual power window controls are located near each passenger window.

When power window lock switch is pressed to LOCK position, passenger windows cannot be operated from individual door switches. Press window lock switch to UNLOCK position to unlock windows.

Vehicle is equipped with an AUTO DOWN feature, that permits driver's window to be fully opened without holding switch. Power window motor uses an Electronic Circuit Breaker (ECB), incorporated in window motor, to stop motor at end of window travel. Lifting driver's window switch to UP position momentarily will cancel AUTO DOWN feature.

With ignition switch in RUN position, voltage is applied through P/W fuse (30-amp) to power window components. System ground is provided through left front power window lock switch. Ground point is located behind left side of instrument panel, above junction block.
