Test B: Remote Keyless Entry System Inoperative
- Perform Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system diagnostic system check. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If RKE system diagnostic system check has been performed, go to next step.
- Using RKE transmitter, operate all functions. If all functions operate appropriately, check for intermittent problem. See DIAGNOSING INTERMITTENTS . Repair or replace as necessary and go to step 26 . If not all functions operate appropriately, go to next step.
- Check power door locks function using door mounted switches. If power door locks function properly, go to next step. If power door locks do not function properly, see POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK RELEASE - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article.
- Check trunk release function using instrument panel mounted switch. If trunk lid release functions properly, go to next step. If trunk lid release does not function properly, see POWER DOOR LOCKS & TRUNK RELEASE - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article.
- Using Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) tester (J43241), place transmitter on RKE tester pad. Turn on RKE tester. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step 10 .
- If no button sounds tone or illuminates Green light, go to next step. If any button sounds tone and illuminates Green light, go to step 9 .
- Replace transmitter battery. Synchronize transmitter. See TRANSMITTER SYNCHRONIZATION under PROGRAMMING. Go to next step.
- Turn on RKE tester. Place transmitter on RKE tester pad. Press each button of transmitter one at a time. If a tone does not sound or Green light does not illuminate after each button is pressed, go to next step. If a tone sounds and Green light illuminates after each button is pressed, go to step 10 .
- Replace RKE transmitter, and go to step 13 .
- Using RKE transmitter, operate panic function. If panic function operates normally, go to next step. If panic function does not operate normally, go to step 13 .
- Synchronize transmitter. See TRANSMITTER SYNCHRONIZATION under PROGRAMMING. If horn chirped to indicate that synchronization has been completed, go to next step. If horn did not chirp to indicate that synchronization has been completed, go to step 13 .
- Operate transmitter within range of vehicle. If all RKE functions do not operate normally, go to next step. If all RKE functions operate normally, go to step 26 .
- Reprogram RKE transmitters. See RKE TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING under PROGRAMMING. If Body Control Module (BCM) does not activate a chime to confirm transmitter programming has been completed, go to next step. If BCM activates a chime to confirm transmitter programming has been completed, go to step 26 .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect RCDLR connector. See Figure . Connect a test light between RCDLR harness connector terminal No. 1 (Orange wire) and ground. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 21 .
- Connect a test light between RCDLR harness connector terminals No. 1 (Orange wire) and No. 4 (Black/White wire). See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 22 .
- Disconnect test light. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between RCDLR harness connector terminals No. 2 (Light Green wire) and No. 4 (Black/White wire). See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If battery voltage is present, go to next step. If battery voltage is not present, go to step 18 .
- Connect a test light between RCDLR harness connector terminals No. 2 (Light Green wire) and No. 4 (Black/White wire). See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light illuminates, go to step 23 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step 19 .
- Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Light Green wire between RCDLR connector terminal No. 2 and BCM 24-pin, Pink connector C1 terminal A11. See Figure and Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary, and go to step 26 . If problem was not found, go to step 20 .
- Check for poor connection at RCDLR connector. Repair as necessary and go to step 26 . If connection is okay, go to step 24 .
- Check for poor connection at BCM connectors. Repair as necessary and go to step 26 . If connection is okay, go to step 25 .
- Check for open, high resistance or short to ground in Orange wire between RCDLR connector terminal No. 1 and DIC/RKE fuse (10-amp) located in right instrument panel fuse block. See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary, and go to step 26 .
- Check for open or high resistance in Black/White wire between RCDLR connector terminal No. 4 and ground connector G203. See Figure and Fig 1 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary, and go to step 26 .
- Check for short to power in Light Green wire between RCDLR connector terminal No. 2 and BCM 24-pin, Pink connector C1 terminal A11. See Figure and Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary, and go to step 26 .
- Replace RCDLR. See REMOTE CONTROL DOOR LOCK RECEIVER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Program and synchronize transmitters to new RCDLR. See RKE TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING and TRANSMITTER SYNCHRONIZATION under PROGRAMMING. After repair, go to step 26 .
- Replace and program BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - IMPALA & MONTE CARLO article. After repair, go to next step.
- Operate system to verify repair. If system operates normally, repair is complete. If system does not operate normally, return to step 3 .
NOTE:
Inspect RKE transmitter to ensure it is correct model for this vehicle. A wrong model transmitter may pass this test, but will not activate vehicle remote system.
NOTE:
All RKE transmitters recognized by RCDLR must be programmed during programming sequence. If system is placed in program mode, it will erase all previously programmed RKE transmitters upon receipt of programming signal from first transmitter.
