Installation Procedure

  1. Secure the power steering pump in a soft jawed vise.
    NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  2. Install the pulley to the power steering pump. Secure with the nut.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the power steering pulley nut to 43 N.m (32 lb ft).

  3. Install the following to the vehicle:
    • The power steering pump with the pulley
    • The 2 power steering pump bolts
    • The 2 power steering pump nuts

    Tighten 

    Tighten the power steering pump nuts to 37 N.m (27 lb ft).

  4. Install the RH lower engine splash shield (1). Secure with six bolts.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the 6 RH lower engine splash shield bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  5. Install the RH front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to TIRE AND WHEEL REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  6. Lower the vehicle.
    NOTE: The inlet and outlet hoses must not be twisted during installation. Do not bend or distort the inlet or outlet hoses to make installation easier. Failure to follow these procedures could result in component damage.
  7. Install the power steering fluid reservoir outlet hose to the pump. Secure with the hose clamp.
  8. Install the power steering gear inlet pipe/hose to the pump. Secure with the power steering gear inlet hose fitting.

    Tighten 

    Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose fitting to 54 N.m (40 lb ft).

  9. Install the serpentine drive belt. Adjust the belt while installing. Refer to DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT .
    NOTE: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.
  10. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir with new power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
    NOTE: If the power steering system has been serviced, an accurate fluid level reading cannot be obtained unless air is bled from the steering system. The air in the fluid may cause pump cavitation noise and may cause pump damage over a period of time.
  11. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding the Power Steering System .
