Fuel System Pressure Relief
WARNING:
Remove fuel tank cap and relieve fuel system pressure before servicing fuel system in order to reduce risk of personal injury. After you relieve fuel system pressure, a small amount of fuel may be released when connecting fuel gauge to fuel lines. To reduce risk of personal injury, cover fuel system components with a shop towel before disconnecting gauge. This will catch any fuel that may leak out. Place towel in an approved container when disconnection is complete.
CAUTION:
DO NOT perform this test for more than 2 minutes in order to prevent damaging catalytic converter.
Fuel system pressure must be relieved before servicing fuel system. To relieve fuel pressure, disconnect negative battery cable. Loosen fuel filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. Remove fuel pump relay from junction block, above lower left door hinge trim panel. Crank engine. Allow engine to start and stall. Crank engine for an additional 3 seconds to ensure fuel pressure is relieved.
