Test B: Charge Indicator Light Always On

  1. If engine electrical diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If engine electrical diagnostic system check was not performed, go to ENGINE ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  under ON-VEHICLE TESTING.
  2. Start engine. If battery charge indicator light remains illuminated after 5 second bulb check, go to next step. If battery charge indicator light does not remain illuminated after 5 second bulb check, problem may be intermittent. Check wiring and connections for damage or poor connections, see PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
  3. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Using scan tool, observe IGNITION 1 SIGNAL parameter in PCM data list. If scan tool indicates IGNITION 1 SIGNAL parameter is within 10-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage does not measure 10-15 volts, go to TEST A: CHARGING SYSTEM TEST  .
  4. Replace PCM. After replacement, reprogram PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in BODY CONTROL MODULES - MONTANA, SILHOUETTE & VENTURE article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  5. Operate system to verify repair. If condition is corrected, test is complete. If condition was not corrected, go to step  2 .
