Cleaning Procedure

  1. Remove the fuel tank. See appropriate REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article.
  2. Check the fuel strainer. Replace a contaminated strainer and inspect the fuel pump.
  3. Check the fuel pump inlet for dirt and debris. If dirt and debris are found, the fuel pump needs to be replaced.
  4. Flush fuel tank with hot water.
  5. Pour the water out of the fuel sender assembly opening in the fuel tank. Rock the fuel tank to ensure that the removal of the water from the fuel tank is complete.
  6. Allow tank to dry completely before reassembly.
  7. Disconnect the fuel pipes at the fuel rail.
    8. NOTE: Only use oil free compressed air to blow out the fuel pipes.
  8. Clean the fuel pipes by applying air pressure in the opposite direction of the fuel flow.
  9. Connect the fuel pipes at the fuel rail.
  10. Replace the fuel filter.
  11. Install the fuel sender assembly.
  12. Install the fuel tank.
