Circuit Description

The 2.0L and 2.5L engines use a coil-on-plug design. The PCM controls 4 (2.0L) or 6 (2.5L) individual coil assemblies using reference pulses from Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor and other sensor inputs. Battery voltage is applied to ignition coil assemblies when ignition switch is in ON or START positions. The ignition control module within each coil assembly toggles primary windings, inducing a high voltage in secondary windings. The high voltage induced in secondary windings of ignition coils is applied through coil boots to spark plugs.
